Macedonian ranks 83rd among most attractive
traveling destinations and tourism development in World Economic
Forum's Report on Travel and Tourism Competitiveness 2007.
Travel and Tourism Index, covering 124 countries around the
world, has given Macedonia 3,81 index, sharing it with
Kazakhstan and Gambia, ranked 82nd and 84th respectively.
According to the report, most attractive travel and tourist
destinations in the world are Switzerland, Austria and Germany.
The top 10 list includes Iceland, USA, Hong Kong, Canada,
Singapore, Luxembourg and United Kingdom. Furthermore, Angola,
Burundi and Chad hit the bottom of the list.
Greece has the highest rank (24th) among Southeast European
countries, followed by Croatia (38), Turkey (52), Bulgaria (54),
Serbia and Montenegro (61) and Romania (76). Albania and Bosnia
& Herzegovina have lower rank that Macedonia, being 90th and
104th respectively.
The Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Index (TTCI), the first
ever, has provided assessments in accordance with 13 categories,
which include political conditions, legal regulations, security,
health care and hygiene, traffic and touristic infrastructure,
IT and telecommunications development, human resources, price
competitiveness, natural and cultural resources.
- The index is not a ‘beauty contest’, or a statement about the
attractiveness of a country. On the contrary, the index measures
the factors that make it attractive to develop the travel and
tourism industry of individual countries, said Jennifer Blanke,
Senior Economist of the World Economic Forum. |
